Run #517

posted Nov 17, 2019, 5:08 PM by Michael Sanders   [ updated Jul 15, 2020, 10:29 PM ]

Hare: Rawhide
Date: Sunday 24-November-2019
Time: 16:30 (4:30pm)
Location
Krua Mai Narm (ครัวไม้น้ำ), Ramkhamhaeng Road, Min Buri

By car:
The shortest way is to go up Ramkhamhaeng Road almost all the way to the end.

From town, you can go out Rama IX Road to Ramkhamhaeng Road, or go out the Sirat Expressway (a.k.a. Rama IX Expressway) and exit at Ramkhamhaeng Road.

However, traffic on Ramkhamhaeng Road is heavy these days due to MRT construction, so you can also travel out Seri Thai Road, take a right on Route 3119 just after Min Buri Prison, turn left on Ramkhamhaeng Road, and go about 1km to find the restaurant on your left. If you come to end of Ramkhamhaeng Road at the T-junction with Route 304, you have gone too far, and the restaurant is back about 100 metres.

According to Google, the fastest route is via the Outer Ring Road, if you don’t mind paying the toll.

From the Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway, take the Outer Ring Road (Route 9) going north, pay the toll, and take the first exit for Ramkhamhaeng/Minburi, which brings you to Ramkamhaeng Road.

Turn right onto Ramkhamhaeng Road towards Min Buri, go about 8km, and turn left into the restaurant carpark.

If you are too cheap to pay the toll on the Outer Ring Road, you can take Rama IX Road or Rama IX Expressway out of town towards the airport (Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway), exit left onto the frontage road after Sri Nakarin Road, and follow the frontage road as it curves around to parallel the Outer Ring Road until you eventually reach Ramkhamhaeng Road. Turn right onto Ramkhamhaeng Road towards Min Buri, go about 8km, and turn left into the restaurant carpark.

Another toll-free option is to take the Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway to Rom Klao Road (Route 3119), and go up Rom Klao to Ramkhamhaeng Road, but this route is a little slower.

If you are not driving:
The fastest and cheapest way from town is to take the sewer rocket up the Klong Saen Saeb. Take the old boat to the current end at Wat Sriboonreung, then change to a smaller boat from Wat Sriboonrueng to the new end at Talat Min Buri. From Talat Minburi, take a taxi or motorcycle to the restaurant, which is only about a kilometer from there.

Note that if the new service to Min Buri is not operating for some inexplicable reason, you can still take the old boat to the end at W
at Sriboonreung, walk out to Ramkhamhaeng Road, and take a taxi to the restaurant.

Want to share a Taxi to the runsite (and Khlong boat)?
Will be at Starbucks Exchange Tower departing 2pm sharp.

Run #511

Hare: Roger Me (Moore) & Bloodhound (Simon)
Date: Sunday, 25-Aug-2019
Start Time: 16:30
Run site: Bang Yai

“Virgin Trails” – Some So Virgin They Will Be Found On Sunday Morning

Please join us for a classic trail on mostly dirt in a pleasant green area. This is 40km from Asoke, so allow a little extra time to get there.

Restaurant:
ร้านอาหาร พี่หนอม เล็ก
A hole-in-the-wall dilapidated fishing pond “restaurant”
Si Prasan Alley, Tambon Bang Yai, Amphoe Bang Yai, Chang Wat Nonthaburi 11140
ซอย ศรีประสาน ตำบล บางใหญ่ อำเภอบางใหญ่ นนทบุรี 11140

Misdirections:
Best is to put the Google Maps link in and follow the directions:

https://goo.gl/maps/kudJhWE1wPFkRj68A

However, for Bushman’s benefit you could also follow the old school directions below.

From Downtown

Find your way to the new Si Rat Outer Ring Rd Expressway that starts around Chatujak Park and is harldy ever used. After going through the Tollbooth, in about 4km you will cross the Chaopraya River, continue for another about 13 km until the freeway comes to an end. Stay in the right lane and follow the signs for Bang Bua Thong which takes you in a semi-circle up around and over the freeway.

Head north on the Bangkok Western Outer Ring Road for 4km and turn left onto a relatively obscure #1001 Thanon Bang Muang – Bang Kulad.

Head west for around 2.8km until you pass over a major canal, continue straight for another 2km and then turn right onto another obscure road (as seen below yet caution you won’t see the green arrow). This is #5035 Bang Khu Lat – Wat Phra Ngoen Road.

After 500 meters and passing a big ass yellow mansion on your left (used for shooting movies), turn left onto the tiny lane (soi 12) which is called Si Prasan Alley on Google Maps. Follow this winding road for another approximately 1km to the run start next to a big fish pond. Good luck.
